On February 6, the Port of Tacoma commissioners approved a 30-year lease with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions to develop a dockside Vehicle Processing Centre (VPC). WW Solutions will lease 90 acres of land in the Port of Tacoma, which was previously home to a Kaiser Aluminum smelter site.
Once completed, the VPC will have the capacity to process up to 100,000 vehicles a year, most of which are bound for the local market or transported by rail to the U.S. Midwest.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s RoRo vessels have been calling Tacoma and other ports in the Puget Sound since 1992. The addition of the VPC allows Wallenius Wilhelmsen to grow its footprint in Tacoma and provide additional value-added services for its automotive customers.
