Located on the Pacific coast of Japan about 100 kilometres north-east of Tokyo, the port is the production hub for Hitachi and Komatsu, two major customers of WWL. Both original equipment manufacturers produce construction and mining machinery at factories adjacent to the port, and WWL supports them with three to four sailings per month from Hitachinaka to North America.

As WWL has worked closely with the OEMs and the Ibaraki prefectural government for many years, it was only natural that the company was chosen to be part of the inauguration ceremony.

After the ceremony, which included representatives from the government and from the OEMs and their suppliers, the loading operation was completed and the vessel sailed on time.
