Vedran, why is breakbulk such an important segment for WW Ocean?

Although RoRo isn’t widely regarded as one of the traditional modes of transport for breakbulk, it’s increasingly recognised as a viable (and often better) method for transporting static equipment safely and efficiently.

WW Ocean is the frontrunner when it comes to shipments of breakbulk in the RoRo industry: we carry approximately two million cubic metres of breakbulk around the globe annually. Everything from our vessel design to innovative equipment solutions and a stable ocean transportation liner service are geared towards increasing flexibility and accommodating a wide range of breakbulk and project cargo.

In recent years, WW Ocean has invested heavily in ships and handling equipment to support the breakbulk industries and is committed to supporting the industry in the long term.

How are your vessels designed to transport breakbulk?

Our purpose-built RoRo vessels can handle cargo up to 420 tonnes in weight and 6.2 metres in height, and everything in between. Using our RoRo handling equipment helps to create a safe environment for customers’ products because there is minimal lifting of cargo. Underdeck stowage further enhances safety, helping to protect products from the environment and the elements.

What’s your background?

I joined Wallenius Wilhelmsen in Australia 2006 and moved to Germany in 2013, where I was responsible for regional business development of supply chain solutions. In 2015, I became general manager, Asia commercial in Tokyo, and for the last two years, I’ve been responsible for high and heavy and breakbulk sales in the UK. For me, the promotion to senior manager for global breakbulk business development reflects the business’ continued goal of being a primary shipping choice for breakbulk customers.

What would you most like to achieve in the new role?

We want to keep servicing our existing client base with excellence: they trust us to deliver on crucial projects and time-sensitive shipments. To do this, we’ll continue to break new technical and operational ground with innovation and keep developing our global team of breakbulk experts. This will help us to be even better prepared to deliver on future needs in a volatile marketplace.

What’s the best thing about working for WW Ocean?

I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and work with many colleagues during my time with the company. We have a global asset-based organisation, spanning different countries, continents and cultures.

No matter which part of the world I have found myself in, I’ve always come across one culture and the same great people, who are always there to help – and who make it a mission to serve our customers every day.

Added to that, our customer base is wide and diversified, and this has led to many great, longstanding relationships – I’m looking forward to developing these going forward. Breakbulk customers are always growing – and we’ll continue to serve them long into the future.
