Electric cars are an excellent solution for terminals.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has introduced its first emission-free, fully electric yard vehicles. Two state-of-the-art, solar-powered vehicles have been deployed at the Mid-Atlantic Terminal in Baltimore, USA, while a further two electric yard vehicles are being tested in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

“Electric cars are an excellent solution for terminals,” says Filip Declercq, Site Maintenance Manager, Zeebrugge Terminal. “Daily mileage is limited, while cold engine starts are avoided.”

The green yard vehicle initiatives were originally submitted as ideas for the 2011 Castor Green Competition – a contest designed to inspire WWL employees to contribute to WWL’s zero-emission environmental target, as exemplified by the Castor Green Terminal concept.
