Communication and training are the cornerstones of our ethical business approach. Our e-learnings “Wallenius Wilhelmsen Code of Conduct”, “Preventing Bribery & Corruption” and “Preventing Anti-Competitive Practices” have formed been part of the introduction process for all newly hired employees since the launch, starting back in 2008.

In 2016, we launched an internal News App to host its compliance policies and guidelines to allow for quick and easy access by smartphones or tablets.

Fair Competition 

We believe in fair competition. We therefore continuously strive to improve our compliance tools, and introduce new ones.

During 2016, this included a new Do’s & Don’ts guideline to supplement the Competition Compliance Manuals in place for various jurisdictions.

A number of targeted training sessions on “Preventing Anti-Competitive Practices” were conducted by the Compliance Team. A total of 220 employees received the training in 2016. 

Preventing Corruption & Bribery 

Managing risks to ensure compliant business operations is part of WWL’s commitment to deliver ethical and sustainable global transport solutions to our customers, including to the benefit of the local societies in which we operate. WWL therefore works actively with internal and external stakeholders, as well as industry peers through the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (www.martitime-acn.org) to prevent and eliminate all sorts of corrupt practices, including bribes and facilitation payments, within our effective control.

In 2016, we launched a new “ABAC Handbook” to supplement its “Anti-Bribery & Corruption” and “Gift & Entertainment” policies. The handbook is to serve as a guide and to provide the organisation with information on how to act in case confronted with a demand.

The Global “Responsible Logistics” Training KPI for 2016 on “Preventing Bribery & Corruption” targeted  Wallenius Wilhelmsen Port and Commercial Agents. The e-Learning training module was rolled out to about 170 individuals with a completion ratio of 97%.

To supplement the vessel related incident reporting conducted by our owners for approved vessels, we launched a new incident reporting tool for port related services for selected ports in South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and Egypt. Further, risk assessments were conducted in selected Asia Pacific and Atlantic Market Performance Areas and targeted training session on “Preventing Bribery & Corruption” conducted for WWL land based employees, including in Mexico, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, India, Korea and the U.K.
