Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics helps "A Chance to Play" initiative
WWL is backing an initiative by The Volkswagen Group Works Council in Germany to help disadvantaged children in South Africa participate in sports programmes.To support the effort "A Chance To Play" programme Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) shipped up to 10,000 footballs and soccer strips into Port Elisabeth from Germany in aid of VW's campaign to provide opportunities for sport and games to street kids. The initiative coincides with the FIFA 2010 World Cup programme in South Africa.
Owners' Representative in South Africa, Xavier Leroi said: "We are delighted to have played our part in helping to bringing some fun to the lives of disadvantaged children and youth in South Africa."
Funding for the disadvantaged children's programme comes from the Volkswagen Group Works Council, while the international child rights organisation, Terre Des Hommes Germany, coordinates the implementation process.
WWL have been working with the VW Group in South Africa since 2006 helping to manage the distribution of vehicles from VW of SA's manufacturing plant in Uitenhage, near Port Elizabeth, by road, rail and sea to their final market destination, mainly Europe and Australia. The company also ships VW Group vehicles from Europe to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
