Environmental Objectives
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics does not only fulfill international regulations, but strives in fact to stay ahead of them. The company also puts effort into trying to find new technology to reduce environmental impact.
Together with the owners the company has identified environmental objectives such as:
- Reduction of fuel consumption/energy per transported unit (fuel used/cubicmeter)
- Reduction of fuel consumption with 10% by end 2009. Measured in g/tonNm. Base year to be the average of 2005 and 2006 results.
- Reduction of CO2 emissions with 10% per transported unit (g/tonkm) by end 2009. Base year to be the average of 2005 and 2006 results.
- Reduction of NOx emissions by 25% by end of 2008 per transported unit (g/tonkm)
- Sulphur content in the bunker oil reached by end 2004 of 1.5% to remain throughout 2008. Study possibilities to purchase low sulphur fuel oil in other parts of the world (outside Europe and Singapore)
- Reduction of separated bilge water to the limit of 5ppm (parts per million) by end of 2008..
- Strict limitation and approval of chemicals onboard..
- Based on reduction of consumption of coolant agents (HCFC/HFC) obtained by the end of 2006, reduce the consumption further by 25% in average per vessel by end 2009..
- The waste from the activities to be reduced by improved management of resources, efficient recycling and waste management.
- Reduction of PM (Particular Matters) per transported unit (g/tonkm)
- Minimize impact on the release of ballast water by continue to use BWE (Ballast Water Exchange) method where applicable and actively follow and monitor future directives on BWE (Ballast Water Equipment).
- All ships, newbuildings and existing, to have a Green Passport (or similar) by the end of 2010.
- Hydraulic oil in newbuildings and hydraulic oil that needs to be replaced in existing ships, to be of a biodegradable type.
