Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping sector
WWF is working with governments at the IMO to develop a robust global agreement and encourages leading shipping companies to commit to significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions and a cap in total emissions."We are working with WWF, the global environment organisation, to develop a global maritime transport policy which will create a new groundbreaking framework for sustainable shipping," stated Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics CEO Arild B. Iversen in his address at the RoRo 2008 Conference in Gothenburg.
Iversen called for vehicle and equipment manufacturers and RoRo providers to work together in an industry-wide effort to cut carbon emissions and to explore other measures to improve environmental stewardship throughout the supply chain.
WWF’s maritime transport policy is scheduled for completion in 2009.Read more
