Company Values

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics believes its competitiveness is dependent on responsive, competent and motivated people with a good understanding of the total business environment.

Clearly stating the expected behaviours and beliefs of the company helps employees focus on the right things at the right times. The company values give guidance on how to work efficiently and with high ethical standards across the organisation. This is in order to promote success for ourselves, our customers and the world in which we live.

Following are the values that guide the performance of all employees:

Customer Centered

Focus on customers' needs to consistently deliver optimal and mutual value.

  • Take initiative to learn about our customers and their needs.
  • Communicate customers' needs to the organisation.
  • Find out how you can contribute to creating business success for our customers.
  • Deliver solutions that represent value for the customer and are profitable for us.

To deliver optimal and mutual value for the customer a WWL employee pointed to the fact that she is able to report customer changing demands back to the WWL global network. This way of working has lowered costs and increased customer service levels, as well as securing transparency, predictability and reliability.

Teaming and Collaboration

Share thoughts, emotions and resources in constructive ways.

  • Realize that success for others is success for you.
  • Take responsibility for developing good relationships with colleagues.
  • Listen and try to understand colleagues' views.
  • Appreciate and use colleagues' experience and skills.
  • Accept that you and your colleagues have strengths and limitations.
  • Be challenging ? then support final decisions.
  • Respect that we have different roles and responsibilities.
  • Share information.
  • Invite others to contribute.
  • Actively find the information you need.

A truck driver within Wallenius Wilhelmsen for over 20 years had plenty of tips for his fellow WWL colleagues in Bangkok when it came to defensive and economical driving. Simultaneously, it was discovered that European truck drivers could learn something from their Thai colleagues when it came to treating the car and the load with the greatest of care.

Innovation

Creatively develop and use capabilities to improve the way we work and to produce value.

  • Accept own and others' honest mistakes and learn from them.
  • Continuously pursue improvement.
  • Look at things differently and try new ideas.
  • Explore opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Be willing to take balanced risks.
  • Make things more simple.
  • Adjust to changing conditions and requirements.

In Region Americas a way of utilizing nature to achieve simplicity was discovered. It was noted that the rising sun had been melting the snow of the rear car windows at the processing facility, while WWL representatives were still left to scrape the frost and ice off the front windows. By flipping the parking lot striping 180 degrees to face the rising sun, scraping was no longer necessary, which, in turn, ensured more efficient automotive processing.

Empowerment

Purposefully use the freedom to act and contribute.

  • Seek and accept responsibility.
  • Work and make decisions within the full range and scope of your authority.
  • Focus, evaluate and follow-up on results.
  • Take initiative both within and outside of your functional area.
  • Seek and give feedback.
  • Actively find the information you need.

When no purposeful business community existed for the exchange of information and experiences between Scandinavian and South African businesses, a newly appointed WWL employee in South Africa, teamed up with the Danish consul to establish the first 'Scandinavian Business Forum', showing both responsibility and initiative.

Stewardship

Use resources with integrity and efficiency.

  • Care for the environment.
  • Do the right things as well as doing things right.
  • Have focus on environmental and safety concerns.
  • Treat your colleagues fairly and with respect.
  • Apply the intent of policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Take care of and protect WWL resources.

At the Zeebrugge terminal the diesel-powered terminal cars have been replaced by new vehicles which run on petrol instead of diesel oil. However, terminal staff now also have the option of utilizing WWL bikes for transportation across the terminal. This clearly demonstrates that resources can be utilised with both integrity and efficiency.
