To be better able to deal with the challenges ahead, we live by our Code of Conduct. Based on the values that have shaped our company for the past decade, the Code reflects our long-standing commitment to ethical business behaviour. It covers ethics, law, human rights, workplace practices and more.

Doing business the right way is an integral part of our workday at WWL. We seek to create and contribute to a world where business is conducted in a fair and open manner, we never accept or seek to induce abuse of power for private gain and strive to limit and contain corruption where we go. Business shall be conducted in accordance with international and local laws. We are true believers in free competition; therefore we never accept anti-competitive behaviour.

As part of our long term strategy we always look for opportunities to learn and improve ourselves and our way of doing business. Knowledge is shared freely and we are open about mistakes and misgivings.

To be able to do so, we rely on our values-based business philosophy. Through living and working by our company values, we create greater value for our customers whilst conducting business in a sustainable manner.

In 2013 WWL appointed a Global Compliance Officer to oversee and manage regulatory compliance issues within WWL, to which the Compliance Managers report.

Compliance was also one of the main focus areas for the QMS audits across WWL. The outcome and feedback from the audits was used to improve and simplify our internal processes to enable efficient and compliant business operation.

To ensure clear and precise instructions, guidelines have been published for:

  • How WWL and its sister company EUKOR should communicate with their customers when cooperating and responding jointly to global tenders to ensure we do so in a transparent and compliant way.
  • Information transparency and its limitations between our various WWL entities, such as some of our terminal companies including Joint Ventures, which provide services to global customers including other carriers.

Also, a new Anti-Corruption & Anti-Bribery Policy was launched to establish the framework for how WWL will work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. Managing business risks is part of the company�s commitment to delivering ethical, sustainable global transport solutions to our customers. Bribery is one such risk, and WWL is committed to work to prevent bribery from occurring in all activities under our effective control.

In 2013, the company also extended availability of its Ethics Alert Line. Now all WWL employees have access to both web and phone based whistleblower mechanisms. The WWL Ethics Alert Line provides an easy channel for all staff in all sites to report on concerns and incidents related to all aspects of our business

WWL continued its work as a founding member of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network(MACN), by supporting its various collective action initiatives. In 2013 an action plan was launched to fight corruption within shipping in Nigeria. The action plan has been developed by the MACN together with Nigeria's Technical Unit on Governance and Anti-Corruption (TUGAR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
