The seven-minute film covers the training of marine pilots who help bring ships, such as those operated by WWL, into ports and their role in transporting goods on the ocean and into the ports. The film is aimed at educating and inspiring younger viewers aged 6-12 about topics of interest in the world that make them “think big", learn new skills and challenge themselves.
The filming itself took place in October when the TV production crew from BBC accompanied Marine Pilot Sean O’Toole as he took over the control of Carmen from Captain Fredrik Åström and carefully navigated the ship through the port of Southampton to its final destination, a RoRo berth.
Blue Peter has been broadcasted since 1958. In 2012, the series was moved to its sister network, CBBC, which is dedicated to children’s TV programing.
